The Senegal-America Project
For over two decades, Massamba Diop (the tama drummer in Baaba Maal’s world famous band) and Tony Vacca (American percussionist, composer, and producer) have been bringing together the traditions of their music and the peoples of their countries with the group they created together, the Senegal-America Project.
Together they weave a legacy of tradition and innovation that feels a lot like the future of where music can take them…and us all. Their collective sound is a wild ride through World Fusion, Mbalax, Jazz, Funk, Blues, and exquisite vocals, and it often finds its way into something… beyond what even they were envisioning.
