Wellness Through Dance is a community-based program designed to foster holistic wellbeing through the practice of traditional and contemporary African and Haitian dance. Each class combines movement, live music, and cultural storytelling to create a space where participants connect with themselves, with community, and with the healing power of rhythm and dance.

Over the course of the weekly classes, participants will engage with:

  • Dance instructors leading technique, movement, and guided exploration.

  • Live musicians provide authentic rhythms that ground the practice in cultural traditions.

  • Interactive experiences that integrate music, dance, and cultural context, highlighting the holistic role of art in wellness.

This series is designed to be accessible: classes are drop-in, pay-what-you-can, and open to all experience levels. The program emphasizes community connection, inclusivity, and cultural education.

Wellness Through Dance, created in partnership with Crocodile River Music., is the inaugural program of The Worcester Dance Project, a community initiative by JSDDance Co. The Worcester Dance Project celebrates the power of dance to connect, inspire, and transform communities through accessible classes, performances, workshops, and cultural experiences. Rooted in the belief that dance is for everyone, the initiative brings together artists and community members of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels in welcoming spaces that foster creativity, wellness, cultural appreciation, and meaningful human connection.

As the project’s first initiative, Wellness Through Dance embodies this vision by offering an inclusive movement experience where participants can improve their physical and mental well-being while exploring dance traditions from around the world. Together, JSDDance Co. and Crocodile River Music are building opportunities for Worcester residents to experience the joy of movement, celebrate cultural diversity, and strengthen community through the arts.
